Exploration
current status 2007

Generally speaking, exploration mainly takes place in two areas; these are the mountains of Gunung Api and Gunung Benarat

Beneath G.Api lies the Clearwater System with Clearwater Cave as the centrepiece but now connected to the very important caves in their own right of Blackrock Cave and Whiterock Cave.

Beneath G.Benarat lay the separate caves of the Terikan System, Blue Moonlight Bay Cave, Cobweb Cave, Moon Cave and Benarat Caverns. Recent connections are now evolving the Benarat caves into one much larger system, although vital connections remain to be made.

In both areas lie tremendous scope for further exploration. Large or significant entrances can be seen but sometimes not accessed - a large cave in the Benarat cliffs remains unexplored by cavers, although a birds-nester's rope can sometimes be seen dangling into the entrance!

Similarly the underground surveys point at large 'promised lands' in which there will almost certainly be many kilometres of cave passage.

2007

The 2007 Expedition added 21.9 kms to the Api total, all of it in Whiterock Cave.
While there are still serious objectives and open leads in many of the Api caves, Whiterock is going so 'ballistic' that it will probably remain a focus for the next expedition with its many open leads. Whiterock appears to be exploding outwards as it reaches into the mountain.

In G.Benarat, the Expedition continued to explore the recently discovered (2005) Moon Cave, which held promise of upper levels as well as its proximity to Cobweb Cave. In the event, the upper levels remained elusive, but a draughting hole in a calcite blockage was opened to gain access to over three kilometres of cave which eventually linked into Cobweb Cave. This joined Benarat Caverns, Moon Cave and Cobweb into one system, 50.5 kms long.
The 32 kilomtre long Terikan System is very, very close to the new Benarat system. A 100 kms+ system is not far away.
